TipHaus’s business depends on speed: tips have to land in employees’ hands the day they’re earned. Settlement under their previous payments provider had become slower and less predictable than a program built on daily payouts could rely on. To keep tips moving on the schedule employees expect, TipHaus needed payments infrastructure better matched to the program’s scale and speed.
The Solution
TipHaus partnered with Astra to power the payments behind their tip distribution platform. With Astra, ACH settles at T+0, faster and more predictable than what TipHaus had before. Tips reach employees via push-to-card transfers over Visa Direct and Mastercard Move that land on debit cards in real time.
Beyond faster settlement, Astra runs the full payments stack behind TipHaus, treasury reconciliation, card validation, and risk controls, all the infrastructure TipHaus would otherwise have had to build or stitch together themselves.
Astra also adapted to TipHaus’s situation rather than the other way around, building a custom migration path that carried existing employees and card tokens onto the new platform with no break in service. TipHaus went live on Astra in 30 days.
The Result: Lower Costs, Reliable Operations, Scale
Astra’s settlement runs on a predictable schedule, with ACH transfers landing at T+0 every business day. That consistency let TipHaus reduce its financing costs by roughly 25% compared with its prior provider. For Steve, it also meant Monday mornings without the 5am check to see if the money had landed.
Astra also raised the operational floor underneath TipHaus. Enhanced KYB diligence and name-to-card matching gave TipHaus an even stronger compliance and risk posture, the kind of foundation a high-volume payouts business needs as it scales.
TipHaus is now processing over 250,000 push-to-card payouts per month on Astra and growing, with the platform scaling alongside the business.
